Maintain multiple different types of credit. Your overall credit score is determined by a variety of different credit types. Having a variety of different kinds of credit, such as a mortgage, a personal loan and credit cards can improve your FICO score provided they are being paid on time.

Try to get a secured credit card if you are not eligible for an unsecured card. This will help you fix your credit. These accounts are much easier to get as you will have to fund the new account ahead of time with a deposit to cover any purchases. A new credit card, used responsibly, will help repair your credit rating.

Any company or credit counselor that claims they can erase all negative reports from your credit history should be viewed with some skepticism. Bad marks on your report will not go away for seven years. However, if there is incorrect information, you can have it cleared up easily by yourself.

Having to deal with a collection agency can be extremely stressful. You can get a collection agency to cease and desist from harassing you but this does not discharge the debt. Sending the letter does not mean you no longer have to pay the bill, it only stops the collection agency from calling.

Part of a nasty credit crunch is having multiple debts that you do not have the money to pay. Spread your payments to all of your different creditors. Even if you are only making minimum payments, sending along at least a little money will mollify your creditors and prevent them from contacting collection agencies.

It is important to read all credit card statements you receive. Make sure the charges on your credit cards are accurate. The responsibility lies with you to verify that each charge is accurate.

Keeping an active savings or checking account at a local bank is a great way to begin repairing any credit damage. If you have accounts in good standing, it can give credits a signal that you have money coming in on a regular basis and that you are protected in the event of an overdraft. Keeping your accounts impeccable shows responsibility and makes lenders more comfortable lending to you.

Having a good record allow you to qualify for things like a home mortgage. Making regular mortgage payments will also help your credit score. Owning your own home gives you a significant asset to use in securing your finances, and your credit score will reflect that asset. If you have to borrow some money, you will need this.

You will repair your credit score by paying off your outstanding debts first. Your credit will only get worse if you are not paying off your debts.

Start paying on bills to help your credit. You need to pay your bills off on time; this is very important. You will notice an improvement in your credit score pretty quickly after paying off some past debts.

Live within your means. You will have to change your thought patterns in order to get your debt under control. In years past, many people relied on credit cards to make major purchases, but now those risky financial choices are catching up with them. Look at your budget, and decide what is realistic for you to spend from month to month.

You can use the following advice to improve your credit score. These tips will help your score stop failing and start improving.
