Learning Spanish does not have to be difficult. It does not have to be painful, and it does not have to take forever! In fact, if you put your mind to it, you can learn the Spanish language quickly and easily, this article is going to show you how to do it. It's going to do that by giving you four specific learning ideas that you can incorporate into your studies.
1. Get Yourself Some Good Spanish Learning Software
If I see you in a book store browsing through Spanish language textbooks, I am going to be very disappointed. Books are dead! By that I don't mean that nobody reads books anymore. I mean that you cannot interact with them. You can't play language learning games with them. You can't have a conversation with them, and you can't record your voice and practice your pronunciation with them--they are dead!
Today's language learning software programs, on the other hand, are alive and well and ready to help you learn Spanish fast! The top programs are well researched, well designed, and simple to use. Just remember one thing. Not all Spanish learning software is good, so never buy a program without trying the free trial first.
2. Define Fluency Goals for Your Own Purposes
Let's get something straight right now. Being fluent in Spanish does not mean speaking like you're from Barcelona! There are different levels of fluency. At the very least, being "fluent" means Speaking Spanish well enough to take care of daily tasks, including shopping, ordering food, communicating with drivers, getting medical care, etc. That's a lot different, for example, than being fluent in Spanish business lingo. To keep focused, and motivated, define your fluency goals based on your own Spanish speaking needs.
Then, when you reach a fluency goal, congratulate yourself on a job well done. After that, if you so desire, make a new fluency goal. Doing this will give you motivational victories in what can otherwise seem like a never-ending conquest. I'm serious about this! If you're going to learn Spanish, stop right now and ask yourself why you want to learn the language. Then decide on your first fluency goal. Doing this will, without doubt, speed up your learning!
3. Make a Study Plan And Stick to It!
I don't mean to sound like your mother (or your high school science teacher), but cramming does not work, especially when learning a new language. You want to know how to learn Spanish fast, right? The #1 important study habit to have is to study in small amounts every day, or at least 3 to 4 times per week. According to Dr. Paul Pimsleur, the most respected authority in language learning academics, you learn most effectively when you study for 30 minutes to an hour per session.
After that, your brain gets tired and starts thinking about ham sandwiches and high school sweethearts! So, if you want to learn Spanish fast, don't skip over what I just told you. Make a plan, or, in this case, a schedule. Choose a particular time each day that is "Spanish time." If you do this, you'll form a habit of studying every day. If you just say to yourself, "I'll study when I find the time," you will miss days, and you will not learn Spanish very fast.
4. Speak Out!
I am a language learning textbook writer by profession. The last book I wrote? I named it Speak Out! Why? Because the single most important way to learn Spanish fast is to speak it. You can't think about the language! You can't memorize the language! You can't listen to the language!
If you want to learn Spanish fast, you must speak the language! Don't have a speaking partner? Do a language exchange, join a Spanish language club, or hire a tutor. Do whatever you have to do because if Spanish words and phrases aren't coming out of your mouth, you are not learning to speak the language!
