Indian Institutes of Technology is one of the best universities for engineering courses in India. There has been big demand for IIT admissions through entrance exam. Each of the question papers would consist of different sections of Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. Physics is one of the subject, where you need to be thorough about the basic concepts, which are the building blocks because the paper is based on the application of these concepts. IIT JEE Entrance Exam pattern is not very big changed as per past years but the questions in IIT-JEE exam brings the new challenge to candidates.

Your understanding of Mechanics, for instance, depends a lot on your comfort level in basics such as Newton's Laws of Motion as well as the conservation laws for linear and angular momentum and energy. My advice to IIT-JEE aspirants is to do the Mechanics portion, especially the tougher topics such as rotation, of I. E. Irodov's Problems of General Physics, though the questions in the rest of the book are of a level that's higher than that of the IIT- JEE. The exposure to the section on Mechanics is important for you to get a grip on the challenging topics.

Another useful strategy is to draw parallels between topics. Many of the formulae for fields and potential, for instance, take the same form in electricity and gravitation, the difference being that mass cannot take the negative sign.

Then again, a good knowledge of basic facts such as potential being negative for an attractive force helps. I remember one such question from IIT- JEE Entrance Exam 2010 about the gravitational potential due to an annulus. After eliminating two options, you should look out for typical terms such as (r^ 2+ R^ 2) ^ (1/ 2) in the remaining two options and cancel out the one that doesn't have it. In Optics, you must be very careful with the sign convention and stick to it always. Your ability to imagine 3D figures will come handy in this topic.

Questions on multiple pulley systems can be simplified using the 'zero work done' trick, although it has to be applied carefully. IIT-JEE Entrance Exam questions will be the objective type in nature designed to test the comprehension and analytical ability of the candidates. Incorrect answer would attract the negative marking. So, if you are serious about the IIT-JEE Exam 2012 must think about the physics subject because IIT-JEE Paper is based on the various physics concepts.
