As fuel prices continue to climb, people will continue looking at the benefits of alternative fuel cars. The most used type of alternative fuel car is the hybrid car but there are others, like the ethanol-fueled cars, that happen to be gaining traction. Bio-diesel vehicles are also gaining popularity, these cars run on used cooking oil.

Hybrid cars are believed to be alternative fuel cars as they combine electric power with gasoline to produce better gas mileage. Though alternative fuel cars have been in existence since the beginning, they never got popular because the gas-powered cars always ran better, faster and cheaper. In the past, a hybrid car would likely only go 25 miles per hour, and that velocity could only be reached after about 10 minutes. Ever since the increased amount of pollution and the climbing cost of fuel, the car industry has been putting much effort into creating alternative fuel cars.

Hybrid vehicles are available in many different varieties since the technology is so complex. Several hybrids take advantage of the electric part of the power to boost the car when starting or running. Others take advantage of the electric powered portion to shut part of the gas motor down when it doesn't need to be used. Hybrid vehicles are becoming more and more powerful compared to what it was when they first came out. With all the advancements in technology, the power should continue to get better, as well as the savings in fuel.

There are great efforts to improve hybrid cars for them to maintain power and increase gas mileage. Truck owners would like hybrids as well, so the hybrid type is moving in that direction, also. There is no loss of power with the hybrids, and the gas mileage is slightly higher, and as a bonus, there is an electrical power source that can run power tools from the truck. It is tough to say at this time what will happen to the hybrid car down the road. It's quite likely that the demand for regular gasoline will decline in favor of cleaner alternative fuels. While hybrid cars continuously improve, they will continue to be popular.

They are going to continue to lower pollution, while they get better gas mileage and improved power. We have a requirement for cars using alternative fuels, but their production hasn't caught up with the common vehicles, and that is why prices haven't come down. The cost of these alternative fuel cars starts around $20,000, but the US government offers a tax incentive to the buyers, and they are also investing funds into alternative fuel cars.
