Few things can be as devastating to a building as fire and flood damage. These two dangers can cause damage that goes much deeper than the surface. Each of these elements will cause damage in each crevice that it reaches. Fire damages through heat and smoke, and water damages through rust and mold. These types of damages can cause numerous recovery problems.
Fire Recovery
Fire recovery involves repairing any damage to the building that is related to either the fire, the smoke or the method used to extinguish the fire. The methods that are used for recovery will vary based upon the amount and type of damage that is present. At a minimum, you should expect for any structural damage to be repaired and an industrial cleaning. The cleaning is required due to the health risks tha are posed from the aftermath of fire damage. Smoke from a building fire will deposit dangerous chemicals throughout the building. Even if items appear to be unharmed, they will likely be covered with a toxic mixture of chemicals that were burned by the fire.
Flood Recovery
Flooding represents a different type of threat the building. Floods damage buildings by rotting structural elements of the building and by fostering the growth and hazardous molds. Structural damage to the building will e dependent on the degree of flooding, the amount of time the structure was submerged and whether the water had a high concentration of salt. However, much of the cost associated with flood recovery comes from the cleaning that is required. The molds that can be produced in flooded buildings have the potential to be lethal. For this reason, the cleaning process entails the use of expensive chemicals and specialized equipment. This equipment must reach deep into any crevice that was submerged. If any spots are missed, then the cleaning process will not completely element the risks posed by flood mold.
