Alternate energy cars have grown to be a hot topic as the price of gasoline continues to rise. Hybrid cars are presently the most well-known amongst alternative fuel cars but ethanol-fueled cars are sprouting up as well. Vehicles that run on second hand cooking oil, also referred to as bio-diesel, are also becoming popular.

Given that hybrid cars are looking for better gas mileage by integrating electric power with a fuel source, that makes them alternative fuel cars. Even though attempts to make cars that ran on alternative fuels have worked in the past, gasoline fueled cars succeeded because of the power and speed. Original hybrid cars probably would top out at 25 miles an hour and go on for about 10 minutes. The car business currently is being pressured to create alternative fuel cars because of pollution and rising fuel costs.

While you might assume the technology would be the same, there are numerous types of hybrid cars. The electric powered portion of some hybrid alternative fuel cars is used to present an extra boost to the car's engine when starting the car or when its running. Other cars use the electrical energy to drive the car while the car is still. One of several problems with the hybrids is the minimal power available, but the newer hybrid vehicles are offering more power with better gas mileage. Hybrids will certainly continue to improve in power and in gas mileage as the technology advances.

The auto business is making great progress in creating hybrid cars that not only improve in gas mileage but in power as well. Hybrids are also becoming popular among truck owners. There's lots of power in these hybrid trucks and also the gas mileage is better and they can power electrical tools. It is hard to say what will happen with the fuel industry, or the future of hybrid alternative fuel cars, but time will tell. Maybe supply and demand will win out, and higher priced gasoline will be eliminated for lower costing fuels that are more available, and cleaner burning. With the development in hybrid alternative fuel cars they will become more popular with the people.

These types of cars will continue to improve in power and gas mileage even while reducing the amount of pollutants in the air. Costs are still just a little high for alternative energy cars because the demand isn't that high yet. Base price for some of these alternative fuel cars starts at $20,000 but could possibly get cheaper with US government tax incentives.
